We should all be rich!
Getting there takes some work however as we all begin our journey toward financial freedom and wealth accumulation from different places in life. The road to riches is an uphill battle and for the majority of us in the black community we can’t expect to receive any inheritance or family trust. We are left to dig ourselves out of debt, build our good credit, and create wealth often one paycheck at a time.
As the number of millionaire households continues to climb in this country the black community makes up only roughly 8%. However, the black community is the number one consumer in this country with over $1.1. Trillion in buying power, but what has all of our spending gotten us, except less wealthy?
Humans are not born with the aptitude to instantly handle money properly and skin complexion doesn’t make anyone more apt at saving and investing. The truth is, there are habits, behaviors, and principles to acquiring and maintaining wealth that the black community simply wasn’t taught.
Imagine from an early age if we were taught how to save money, invest, use high interest accounts, live within our means, benefit from the power of compound interest, and to build a great credit score, let alone the importance of doing all of these things! This knowledge, these skills and principles were not passed down to many of us, instead we are saddled with student loan and credit card debt, lower paying jobs, higher living and child care expenses while surviving a check-to-check existence.
